Competitors!

Here is a copy of the rules and regulations for our Summer SoundOff. Below that is a breakdown of the classes and divisions.

Please ask questions in the comment field below, or email me directly if you prefer. If you have comments or suggestions, please let me know those as well.

Rules & Regulations:

1. All competitor vehicles must registered and insured so as to be legally usable on public roads. Vehicles must also be capable of carrying at least 2 occupants (driver and passenger) with all factory safety equipment and systems intact and functional. Valid state issued ID and vehicle registration will be required on the day of the event.

2. Vehicle must be electrically self-sufficient, i.e. cannot be connected to "shore" power or to any other outside source of energy. The rotation of the engine and the energy it provides to mounted accessories are the only allowed forms of electrical generation.

3. Vehicles must be operated with all windows, doors and hatches closed and sealed. At no time during a judging run will any opening be allowed on a competitor's vehicle. However, competitors may invite their friends and spectators to hold the windows, trunk and/or roof of their vehicle during their judging run.

4. The vehicle's engine may be allowed to be running at idle only, here defined as no more than 1200 RPM. At no time may the engine be "revved" or will the engine idle be increased with the intent of improving alternator performance.

5. Competitors may use any form of program material they prefer, so long as it is from a pre-recorded source, i.e. CD, iPod or other auxilliary device. Sweeps, tones and bass music are all allowed, as are "burps" or other manipulations of the stereo system during a judging run. However, computer-generated or synthesized tones generated live or on-the-spot are not allowed.

6. Each competitor will get 2 judging runs. The louder of the 2 runs will be recorded as the competitor's top score of the day. Any violation of the rules or regulations during a run will result in a forfiture of the score for that run and thus one or more of the competitor's judging opportunities. These violations will be determined at the sole discretion of the competition judge.

7. The competition judge(s) and Lynn's Audio Video and authorized agents are the sole arbiters of the rules and conduct of the event. Any disorderly behavior or violation of the rules or contract of the event may result in expulsion from the event. The judge's say is final in all matters; no appeals are permitted or available.

8. No competitor will be allowed to compete who is also a registered competitor with any other SPL or sound-off sanctioning body. Likewise, no dealer or vendor sponsored vehicles will be allowed to enter the event. This competition is intended for the fun and entertainment of the amateur car audio enthusiast. Professional competitiors need not apply.

Classes/Divisions:

Competitor vehicles are divided into classes based on the total displacement potential of their subwoofer system, calculated in cubic inches based on the manufacturer's published SD & Xmax specifications (bore X stroke method). Further divisions are based upon the output potential of the system as a whole and considers enclosure design, electrical upgrades and sound reinforcement. In general, the system must meet two of the modified criteria to be moved into that class (i.e. charging upgrades AND sound reinforcement, or custom enclosure AND more than 500 watts of power). However, these divisions are decided at the sole discretion of the event judge(s) and individual conditions may alter these considerations.

Street Class: Street class vehicles generally exhibit no charging system upgrades, little to no sound reinforcement and standard, or "off the shelf", enclosure designs. These vehicles also employ no more than 500 watts RMS system power.

S1: up to and including 40 cubic inches of displacement
S2: 40.1 up to and including 75 cubic inches of displacement
S3: 75.1 up to and including 130 cubic inches of displacement
S4: 130.1 up to and including 190 cubic inches of displacement
SX: anything greater than 190.1 cubic inches of displacement

Modified Class: Modified class vehicles generally exhibit exstensive charging system upgrades, extensive use of sound reinforcement and custom built or purpose designed enclosures. These vehicles also employ greater than 500 watts RMS system power.

M1: up to and including 40 cubic inches of displacement
M2: 40.1 up to and including 75 cubic inches of displacement
M3: 75.1 up to and including 130 cubic inches of displacement
M4: 130.1 up to and including 190 cubic inches of displacement
MX: anything greater than 190.1 cubic inches of displacement
